What Makes A Composite Door 'Burglar-Resistant'?

What Makes a Composite Door ‘Burglar-Resistant’?

Your front door is the main barrier between your home and everything outside. It is the first thing a visitor sees, but it is also the first thing a burglar might look at if they are thinking about breaking in. And in case someone tries to force their way in through the door, you want that door to stay strong and keep them out. This is why more and more people are now buying high-quality composite doors in Cardiff

What makes a door hard to break into?

The thickness of a door is not a measure of how strong it is. Instead, you should look at how the door is built and if it can survive tools that burglars use, like crowbars, screwdrivers, drills, etc. These are the real things someone might use to force a door open, and a good door needs to handle all of that.

That is what the PAS 24:2016 certification is for. This test puts doors through real break-in scenarios. So, if a door has PAS 24 certification, you know that it is strong enough to slow a burglar down or stop them completely.

Both Hallmark Panels and the Palladio Door Collection pass this test. Hallmark doors have a high-density polyurethane foam core and a tough 44mm GRP skin. Palladio takes it even further since the door is made as one 65mm thick solid piece. This “monocoque” structure makes the door stronger without making it bulky or heavy.

Pay attention to the door’s locks and frames.

A strong door is not enough if the lock is easy to break. That is why both Hallmark and Palladio use high-security Yale or Winkhaus multi-point locks.

These doors lock at different points along the frame. Instead of one place to force open, a burglar would have to break through multiple points at once, which is, of course, much harder. Palladio also includes reinforced uPVC frames, internal steel reinforcement, hinge bolts, and anti-snap cylinders for even better security.

What about glass panels? Aren’t those easy to break?

Some people see a door with glass panels and think that it must be easy to break. But you don’t have to worry about that with either Hallmark or Palladio doors.

Hallmark uses laminated or toughened double glazing in its doors. It can take a hit and not shatter easily. Palladio steps it up with triple-glazed toughened glass with sealed edges that keep everything locked in place even under pressure.

You don’t have to compromise with the door style.

Security does not have to come at the expense of a door’s design. Thankfully, with both Hallmark and Palladio doors, you can customise every detail of your door, from its colour and glazing to handles and accessories.
